8 Hours of Spa : Victory for Jadoul/Dutronquois
The second edition of the 8 Hours of Spa was breathtaking, from beginning till end.
Despite the many difficulties, Jadoul/Dutronquois and their Kawasaki finally got their victory.
After almost two hours of race, the BMW shared between the Spaniard Mazvecos and Werner Daemen crashed and they had to abandon, just when they were at the lead. A few minutes later, after 3h30, the Honda of Sébastien Le Grelle/ Mertens had to throw in the towel due to problems with the valves, this time they were leading. This let the road free for Jadoul/Dutronquois with their Kawasaki, but then they had to enter the pit several times due to troubles with the clutch. Weynand/Depoorter with their Yamaha 600 took advantage of that to make up for their delay, but then they had to cope with brake troubles. So the Kawasaki took the lead again and headed straight for the victory.
After 6h30 of race, Weynand crashed at Les Combes and he wasn’t able to return the motorcycle from Campus Francorchamps to the pit, which was a good thing for Julin/Troiano (Yamaha), who automatically became Belgian Champion Endurance 600 and eventually also first in their category.
The podium still was undecided, because behind Marnix D'Hondt/Mario Van Vossel (Honda/Honda winner of the Cup 1000) and Martin Scherrer/Niggi Schmassmann (Suzuki/Suzuki), Marc Fissette and Fabian Le Grelle built up the pressure for the third march of the podium and also for the Belgian title in the 1000cc category. Even though they didn’t succeed in getting their Suzuki on the podium due to a penalty minute at the end of the race for not respecting the safety guidelines during the last pit stop, they did sweep away the title from Mertens/ Sébastien Le Grelle although these two won every other round.
In the Cup 600 it was Kenny Bourguignon/Eric Hubert (Yamaha/Suzuki) who won, before Michaël Honnay/ Olivier Poste/Rodrigue Dury (Suzuki/Suzuki/Honda).
